Do you need a wall plastering? Are you looking for an online price? We can help – we have been researching prices for plastering and other home improvement projects for nearly three years. Check out our price guides in the tables below and get a fixed written quote for yourself if you wish.

How Did We Get These Figures and How to Save Money?

Thousands of people visit our site every week and explore our price guides. Some are just curious about how much this work costs, others are budgeting for a project. We know from feedback that some of our visitors even print off our price guides and use them as a benchmark during negotiations.

We have received hundreds of emails and messages of thanks from people who have saved money in the last few years.

Some tradespeople have even complained that we are preventing them from overcharging, so I guess that means we must be doing some right!

We know that outdated price guides can be very frustrating, that is why we intend to update our prices every two years.

Where Does Your Money Go?

As you can see from the chart above, this type work doesn’t involve a lot of expensive materials but is labour intensive. Don’t forget; the chart excludes VAT but some of our chosen businesses, the larger ones, did indeed charge VAT.

The information below is based on what our chosen plasterers told us. We received lots of advice and some of it conflicted with others told us but we have tried to make sense of it all:

If you are looking to repair some damage to a wall then you may be able to have a patch repair carried out, this is fine if you intend to paper over the wall. But if you looking for a smooth finish, perhaps because you intend to paint the wall, then it might be best to plaster (overskim) the whole wall.

The work may need to be done over several days, it all depends on plaster drying times and how much needs to carried out.

Factors That Can Increase/Decrease The Cost

If you need to move/adjust plug sockets then another tradesperson will need to come in, that will add more cost.

The prices we have displayed on this page are for over-skimming. If you want new boards as well, then will cost much more and the whole job will take considerably longer.

If you live in London then the prices can be considerably more than areas north and far west of the United Kingdom. This is because plaster itself is quite cheap but labour costs vary and this work is labour intensive.

Wall Plastering Price

Plastering a wall

We contacted several plasterers and asked them to provide us with a quote for repairing and then plastering a wall and a separate price to render an entire small room.

Many of the quotes were supplied by email, we just sent some photographs to the plasterers and most were happy to quote without visiting the property first. A few did insist on checking the wall first.

As is the case with all of our examples here at Quotation Check, we also dragged in a few friends and family members to gather quotes for us as well.

As you can see, the average cost to plaster the walls of a small room is £360.00, but check out our tables below for more detailed information.

Our figures do not include VAT as most of our chosen plasterers were small businesses trading below the VAT threshold.

FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)

(Q) How long does the work take?

(A) A couple of hours for small repair, allow half a day for a whole wall. It will probably take less but half a day is what your plasterer will need to charge to cover his time.

(Q) Is the work messy?

(A) Yes, plastering can be very messy. Best to remove all the furniture first. Your plasterer should cover the area with a sheet first though…

(Q) What is the cost of the materials?

(A) Tub of PVA: £15.00. Bag of plaster: £7.00.

(Q) What are plasterer’s minimum charges?

(A) This depends on location. But most plasterers wouldn’t take on a job for less than £150.00. Once the cost of the materials and fuel costs are taken into account, there isn’t much left from £150.00. Then there is tax and national insurance etc.
